The Eastern Cape Children’s Choir was established in 1982 and consists of between 60 and 70 boys and girls, aged 11 to 15 years. The choir’s official residence is Port Elizabeth, but members, who enter the choir by vocal audition, represent schools across the entire Nelson Mandela Metropole and surrounding towns.
The Salem Moravian Bands form an association within the Salem Congregation of the Moravian Church in South Africa. We are based in Schauderville, Madiba Bay. We are first and foremost a church band, but double as a community band, and have an open membership policy. We form part of a previously disadvantaged community in serious need of upliftment.
Lucy Nel was born in 1959 in the coastal town of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
It was only in 1998 that the artist was inspired to try her hand at painting with oils on canvas. Her paintings reveal the innocence of an artist that paints with inner feeling, void of the prescriptive theories often imposed on artists.
On a farm just outside the peaceful seaside resort of Still Bay stands a small cottage which is a gallery of fine art,a display of the paintings of Marian Smit.
The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum, formerly the King George VI Art Gallery, was opened on 22 June 1956 and renamed in December 2002. The collections are housed in two buildings framing the entrance to St George's Park and consist of South African art (particularly that of the Eastern Cape), British art, international printmaking and Oriental art (including Indian miniatures and Chinese textiles).
